Whether it’s homes, landscaping or commercial buildings rammed earth in Australia is becoming significant. The industry in Australia is well established due to a variety of reasons. Most important of which is public exposure, meaning many examples that people can see, touch or read about. The more awareness there is, the more buildings there are… and the more buildings there are the more the awareness grows. As we all know Australia is very hot and the thermal mass of the rammed earth walls protect the interior of buildings from the scorching outdoor heat because the heat can’t penetrate the thick walls. Wood is expensive and another factor is termites, it’s important to have walls that are termite proof. There are more reasons for the popularity of using earth as a building material but perhaps the people of this country just have a great appreciation for beautiful walls.
