Rammed Earth in the US
The rammed earth renaissance is well underway in the US with many fine examples in existence. There you will find rustic utilitarian to refined walls used for both residential and commercial uses in a variety of styles.
There are historical examples of rammed earth buildings dating back to the 1700 and 1800’s. The US government invested in testing of rammed earth as a viable building material during the 1920’s – 1940’s while looking for a practical solution to providing affordable housing. Even Frank Lloyd Wright was a fan, he drew up plans for a multi-family Cooperative but due to the war that project was never fulfilled. Frank Lloyd Wright was ahead of his time… but we are here… and now is the time!
